The Glyderau in Spring

Postcards from Wales - Western Mail

Western Mail used my photo Stream, Dyffryn Mymbyr for their Postcards from Wales section.

Here is the actual photo.

The morning I came to take this photo I had packed all up and was heading back home after a good session on the Glyderau. The weather had been pretty bad overnight and – by dawn – my best forecast was of a rather grey and rainy day. But just when my truck was loaded and ready to drive away, the weather changed rapidly and a few holes started to appear in the thick clouds. I decided to wait and see if that would materialise into an opportunity for great light and sure enough, by nine o’clock the sun started to appear through ever bigger holes.

I started driving my truck back and forth along the A4086 in search of a good spot to work with that fantastic light, finally settling for this little stream. The actual subject didn’t really matter too much, I just tried to capture that magical moment of light in changing weather.

I took this photo on a beautiful crisp February morning. It features mount Snowdon as seen from the magical Glaslyn lake, where the monster Afanc was finally thrown in chains. The lake is at about 600 meters above sea level and being situated in a cwm, it offers a safe wild camp spot, nicely sheltered from the worst of winter weather.
